".....one of the area's new hot bands!......" Bedworth Folk Festival 2006

".....the best night we've ever had here!......" The Saracen's Head, Corley

"....Where are the CDs ? You could have sold an awful lot here today after that performance". Keith Donnelly, Swanage Folk Festival, 2007.

There may only be four of us, but we play a whole orchestra of acoustic instruments: guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, dobro, harmonica, ukulele, concertina, washboard, spoons and a couple of other things you’ve probably never heard of. We are all experienced musicians who have performed in bands, duos and as solo performers for many years. We have been brought together by a shared love of the folk music and dance of rural America, from hoedown to Hank Williams, from dancehall to Chapel choir, from Nashville to Memphis.

We draw our repertoire from the deep well of classic Americana - barn stomping Old Time flatfooting tunes and hillbilly honky-tonk, sweet mountain ballads and gospel the way it is sung in little clapperboard church houses across West Virginia and the Carolinas – and on a good night we’ll play blues so lonesome it’ll make you cry. It’s the music that made America smile when times got tough  - and still makes tired feet tap and slide in the older, kinder America that you find down quiet back roads and in the hills and hideaways of the mountain states. And just like the locals, we sneak in a bit of rock n roll and Tin Pan Alley to spice it up some.

Band members Ian and Sue Hartland are not only outstanding musicians and vocalists with an international reputation, but are considered by American dance guru Ira Bernstein to be amongst the very best flatfooters in Britain. Keith Eardley is a harmonica legend, also adding ukulele and tea-chest bass; and Bob Powell is an outstanding lap style dobro player and is pretty handy with a banjo, too!

Fine singing, great instrumental playing, flatfooting and vintage material adds up to something just a little bit different.

We've also been featured on UKCountryRadio.com during the last few weeks. Why not check them out at UKCountryRadio.com

The Dustbowl String Band has recorded four of their favourite songs on a demonstration EP (small CD to those of you under 40!) which is now available to all prospective bookers and Festival organisers. Email us for more details.
